Hello loves!
How have you been? Since I've last talked to you
I've came back from my trip to Italy, I started at a new job and I turned
26 (yes... can you believe how fast time flies?!) all this in a span of
two weeks, two very chaotic weeks, with tight schedules and new
routines... But here I am bringing you my Milan Travel Photo Diary!
(beware this is an extremely photo heavy post!!!)
Our
flight departed from Oporto super early on Thursday morning, but between
the plain, transfer and subway, plus the one hour time difference, we
arrived to the Piazza del Duomo around midday. It was a grey,
gloomy afternoon.. we looked around, took some pictures and looked for a
place to eat some lunch - we turned out eating pizza at Spontini.
I went on this trip with my sister, and we stayed at our cousin's
house who's working in Milan but he could only meet us in the late
afternoon so we spent the day carrying our backpacks, but still saw
plenty of the city despite ending up sitting down with a cappuccino
waiting for him when it started to rain.
We saw plenty of Milan on that first afternoon... the Duomo, the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, the Palazzo Reale, Piazza Mercanti, plenty of churches, plenty of stores, even the Castello Sforzesco. Honestly I think one full day is enough to see this city, but we had plenty of time so ended up seeing the same places a few times.
On
Friday we spent the entire day walking around the city, started by
visiting San Bernardino Alle Ossa and other churches, walked by the
Università Statale and Torre Velasca, went to Sant'Eustorgio, passed by the
Colonne and Porta Ticinese and ended up eating a Panzerotti in Navigli for lunch.
We
then headed to Arco della Pace, explored Parco Sempione and Castello Sforzesco, stopped by a few shops on Via Dante (and picked up MAC's Brave from my Birthday Wishlist) on our
way back to the Duomo, to visit the cathedral and go up to the terraces
where you
can see the entire city, sadly when we were up there it started to rain.. but as soon as we got down the sun started shining again and
we got the prettiest pictures of the Duomo :)
Saturday we went away from the city to beautiful Verona (a separate post coming up soon) but when we got back in the evening we went to a bar in Piazza Vetra to do the aperitivo, a concept most bars and restaurants practice, where you buy a cocktail starting from 10€ and you have access to a buffet with pastas, salads, pizzas and a whole lot of other different foods, including desserts.
After the aperitivo we walked through Colonne and Navigli where most people gather around at night.
Sunday
we also went away, to Bergamo this time and when we came back we
stopped by 10 Corso Como, this building which combines art, fashion and a
beautiful cafe and rooftop.
Monday
was our last morning in Milan and we spent it walking around the city,
collecting souvenirs, taking loads of pictures, including the ones spinning on the bull's balls for good luck ;) and saying goodbye to our
favorites
- the brioche and gelato!
And it was time to come back home!
I enjoyed Milan, it is a nice city, it must be a great place to live at but to be honest there's not much to visit, you can see it all in a short time. Apart from all the touristy attractions the city has, what I most enjoyed were the random buildings, the street art, the flower covered restaurants and shops in all the little corners and running into medieval spots and grand churches in the heart of the big city!
Even though I really enjoyed Milan I have to say it was not what I expected from Italy, if you know what I mean, the city is not the typical Italy we see in movies... Verona and Bergamo were a whole different story, but I'll tell you more about it soon :)
